Qingdao Sifang Rolling Stock Research Institute Co., Ltd (hereinafter refers to as Sifang Institute), the wholly-owned subsidiary of China CNR Corporation Limited, is located in the coastal city of Qingdao, covering an area of 200,000m2, and has employees of more than 600.
Sifang Institute is founded in 1959 and transformed from a scientific research institution into a scientific research enterprise in 2000. In 2002, Sifang Institute established its development strategy to expand the technology R&D and the industrialization of technologies simultaneously by laying emphasis on the development of four business domains of electric technology, vibration-absorption, coupler & draft gear and braking, together with research & test and technical service. In 2007, Sifang Institute wholly transformed to limited company.
In resent years, all the business of Sifang Institute experienced a better growth. In the fifth speed-increase project of Chinese railways in 2004, our three new technologies ...[More]uch as DC 600V power supply systems of train, network monitoring system and tight-lock couplers were used for new 25T passenger cars, which has promoted the progress of Chinese railway passenger car technologies. In 2005, Sifang Institute successfully carried out the altiplano compatibility test for air conditioning, oxygen supply and electrical system of Tibet passenger cars. During the implementation of the “leapfrog development strategy” of Chinese railways, we have realized the cooperation with foreign companies holding advanced technologies respectively in the fields of electric technology, vibration-absorption, coupler & draft gear and braking, and obtained the supplier qualification of subsystem and key components for high speed EMU and high power electrical locomotive, which has laid a foundation for the development of key systems and components of rail vehicles towards the world’s leading level.
At the same time of developing the four core business domains, we pay a lot of attention to the construction of R&D platform and production platform. Possessing the complete standard and information management system and the testing & inspecting system, following the developing trends of rail vehicle technologies, leading the technical research and development of new products and holding the strong capability of production of electric, mechanical and rubber products, all of this assures the stable and reliable quality of our products.

Sifang Institute has passed the certifications of ISO9001:2000 quality management system, ISO14000 environment management system and OHSAS18000 occupational health and safety management system. Vehicle Inspection Station of Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of Ministry of Railways, Authority which taking charge of the technical standards of vehicles and Information Center of Rolling Stock are all set here, and Rolling Stock Committee of China Railway Society is affiliated to Sifang Institute as well.
